Split, Croatia (Hostel Adria)

朝日をベランダから眺めたかったけど、生憎の曇天…。

I wanted to the sun rise from the balcony but it was cloudy...



今日は風も強く波も高い。

It was windy and the sea was rough.

雨が降らないだけまし、か。

Well, it's better than raining.

バスに乗りスプリトの街まで。17クナ(270円)と結構高い。

I caught a bus to the city of Split. It cost 17 Kunas (€2.50), that's little expensive.

スプリトの街は結構広い。本日の目的地は旧市街。

Split is a fairly large city. I wanted to get to the historic area of Split.

ディオクレティアヌス帝の隠居宮殿跡だ。

I was heading to Diocletian Palace. The Roman Emperor Diocletian built his retirement palace here.

バスを降りて歩いて行くと、これか、な？

I got off the bus and walked to the old town.



なんか、スゴくツーリスティックなんだけど…。

I wasn't sure if there was the palace. It was too touristic...

そのまま歩いて行くと、海に出てしまった。

I kept walking and I came to the harbour.



あれ、古代ローマ遺跡は？世界遺産じゃないのか、ここは？

Where were the Roman ruins? It's supposed to be the World Historic Heritage.



道を変えて再び散策。

I turned into an alley.

すると、お、それらしき感じだ！

Then it looked more like a ruin!



おおっ、城壁はローマ建築って感じですな。

The city wall looked like a "Roman" architecture.



ヒツジはローマ建築たくさん見て来たな。

Mr. Sheep has seen so many Roman ruins.

くまは初めてか。

But for the bear it was the first time.



あ、日本人団体観光客も。ここにも団体旅行に来るんですねぇ。世界遺産巡りか、な。

I saw a group of Japanese tourists! I was amazed to see them here. Well, it was probably a tour going around the World Heritages.



この立派な塔は中世の建築。

This bell town was built in the medieval.



教会になっていて、日曜だからミサが。賛美歌が外まで聴こえてくる。東方教会だからなのかな、賛美歌が独特で良い感じ。

It was a church and as it was Sunday the mass was going on. Gospel could be heard outside of the church. It sounded different from ones I knew. I wondered if it was influenced by the Eastern church.



何故かスフィンクスがある。ローマ人はエジプト美術好きだねぇ。

There was a sphinx! Romans loved Egyptian arts and mythology.



この崩れ加減がいい。これはローマ建築だろうな。

I liked the way the buildings were ruined. I guessed those were Romans.



で、中世。

Then the medieval.



「黄金の門」。宮殿の東門で正門だったのだそう。

"The Golden Gate". It is at the eastern side of the palace and believed to be the main entrance to the palace.



外には市場が。腹が減ったからパンでも買って食べながら歩く。

Outside of the gate, there was a market. I bought some breads and kept walking around while having them.



地下室もあるのだ。入場料は40クナ(640円)。高いけど、この際。

There was a basement I could explore. The entrance was 40 Kunas (€6). It's little expensive but I went in.

排水溝の跡とか、

Those are remains of the ancient sewage system.



煉瓦で創った丸天井とか。

A dome ceiling made by bricks.



オリーブ油絞り機とか。面白い。

The ancient olive oil extractor.



で、ジュピター神殿は天井の保存状態がいい、世界有数のローマ建築物なのですが、

Here has the temple of Jupiter, it is special for its original ceiling. It is rare to have the original ceiling kept for so many years.

工事のため閉鎖中…。

But it was closed for restoration...



残念。

What a pity...

この遺跡、というか、まだ人が住んでいるし、現役の街なのだ！

This is the World Heritage site, but people are still living!!! The city is still alive. That was a surprise.



それが、面白い。かなりツーリスティックだけど。

I enjoyed exploring here even though it was very touristic.

まぁ、歩いていて楽しかったよ。

I had enough walk for a day.

バスに乗り、宿まで戻る。

I took a bus back to the hostel.

晴れて来たけど、まだ風は強く波が高い。

The sun came out but it was still windy.



でも、夕陽は綺麗だ！

Luckily I could see a nice sunset from the balcony!



明日は雨の予報。ドブロブニクに行くつもりなんだけど、飛び地になっていてボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナ領をまたがなければならない。

According to the forecast, it will rain tomorrow. I'm thinking to get to Dubrovnik, but somehow it is separated by Bosnia for 13km or so. I have to cross the border.

国境越えもあるし、面倒くさいあことにならなければいいのだけれど。無事にドブロブニクに到着出来るといいな。

I hope it will be the easy crossing.

天気も良くて時間もあれば、近隣の島巡りも良さそうですね。アドリア海はなかなか風光明媚。また来たいですね。
